automating input of data into Web site

Hi,

Context first, I used to use VB a long time ago, but would never class myself as a programmer. What I am proposing here is to hire someone to do the work. What I am trying to determine on this thread is whether VB.NET is a technically feasible solution given the following use case.

Very outline is:

  • User starts program running on local desktop
  • Request made to website (site is based on JavaScript)
  • Log in (so exchanging credentials)
  • Navigate to input screen
  • Iterate through .csv (strctured data on local machine) - 2 screen involved in completed a record upload & save record
  • Log out

I can get the workflow to operate in UiPath but as mentioned (a) I have multiple home users and (b) structured data is restricted under GDPR and (c) UiPath is far too messy for a non-technical distributed user base. So I want them using my software locally to simply upload their data directly. This means distributing the binaries in .exe format, as you would do any compiled program. They provide the data (we tell them how to do that in the correct format) and then parameterise credentials and file location / name.

I know this might not be a great use case in terms of technology but distributing a single VB application to all the users would ideal as I have already looked at provided a centralised solution and legal restrictions are too difficult to get around. It simply has to run from the users desktop.

Can anyone advise if VB.NET (considering all these people will be using Windows) might meet this rough requirement?

Thanks,

Eddie Turbo
